When you tell them you're from Colorado The first thing they say are Oh John Denver. Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads, co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief stint in folk groups, was Denver's debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff wrote the tune with the inspiration of Johnny Cash, but Denver discovered an early version of the song and realized it would become a top 10 hit. The song was recorded just several weeks after that Washington D.C. performance.
