John Denver was a superstar artist who was a hit through his songs of pop-folk and many of them based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado and settled down in Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated the following: John Denver was by far one of the most popular performers who embodies Colorado. Denver was inducted into the Hall of Fame as its first member in 2011. Denver is today the face of Colorado on the world stage. While traveling, I will meet people on the other end of the planet. Like, for instance, people who is from New Zealand. And when you tell them you're Colorado-based, Colorado the response is "Oh John Denver!" Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo performer after a brief time in small folk groups. Danoff had written the song in the spirit of Johnny Cash, but Denver discovered an early version and knew it was going to be an instant hit in the top 10. Danoff recorded the song a couple of days after having performed at Washington D.C. before an large crowd who were very appreciative.
